A zebra finch builds a “Bird Cave”
Looks can be deceiving! At first glance, Pepe Caliente’s nest highlighted in this video appears to be just a large nest, but later on in the video you will see that Pepe has built a much more intricate nest with a hidden cave-like hideaway! Enjoy! :))

When in the process of building several nests at various locations in his room, Pepe Caliente, an Australian Zebra Finch always ends up dropping bits of his nesting material all over the room. So, before I vacuum his room, I have to make sure to pick up all of his dropped little twigs to prevent the vacuum cleaner from getting jammed. Check this video out to see what really happens when I start...

Pepe Caliente, an Australian Zebra Finch was not happy at all when I first replaced an old TV with a new 2nd cage for him. At nighttime he loved sleeping next to the TV - especially on the looped cord behind it. In due course, he did warm up to the new 2nd cage and finally laid claim to it as you will see in this video! fradsou
My zebra finch will not let me use the iPad

Pepe Caliente, an Australian zebra finch tends to take full ownership of items left in his room such as an iPad. As far as Pepe is concerned, possession is 9-tenths of the law, and too bad for me because he is a true believer in that saying "FINDERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS :)) fradsou

I know this is late, but I want to give you my utmost condolences for your loss. Pepe was truly a comedic and sweet little birdie! My zebra finch, Skittles, is still here and I've had him for 10 years. He's still holding up, just not nearly as active as he used to be when he was young. I'm appreciating all the time I have with him. Rest in peace, Pepe. Fly high 💞
Thank you so much your kind words! Pepe was definitely a unique little birdie and was quite comedic as you observed. The fact that Skittles is holding up at 10 years means that you are taking great care of him, and I am so glad to hear that you are appreciating him a lot! :))
What happened to Pepe? Everyone says Pepe died but i don't understand how tho. Can someone explain?
Pepe passed away a few years ago due to his old age. He was fortunate to have lived 13 years, that is way above the average zebra finch lifespan of 5-7 years. pretty old. Thanks for being a fan of Pepe Caliente! :)
@@fradsou Oh...Pepe really was a great zebra finch!

Pepe needs female company. This sort of birds should not be alone, he needs to share his life with someone like him❤.
Love watching your videos, especially when he sings his victory song. God bless you.

I Just Heard Pepe Singing At The Beginning :< 0:04
Ahh - I see that you noticed that Pepe was singing at the beginning of the video, and then he had to stop singing to prevent me from taking his iPad - Lol. Thanks for watching his videos! :)
How is he so tame? Did you feed him as a baby? Hand-feed him the time you got him?
I did not get Pepe as a baby and I did not hand feed him because he was fully capable of feeding himself when I first got him after he was found late one evening in a boy’s restroom (by a custodian of a school) as a wild fledgling that had been somehow separated from his flock. Since the custodian couldn’t take care of him for that night because he had cats, I volunteered to become Pepe’s caretaker. I am flattered that you think I tamed Pepe, but the truth of the matter is that all of Pepe's behavior was completely that of his own making. All I did was give him the freedom to do whatever he wanted to do, and whenever, so that his wild instincts would remain intact such as being extremely territorial and build numerous nests at various locations in his room, some of which were hidden from view. I preferred that he slept in his cage at night, but NO NO NO … Pepe would decide for himself in which one of his nests he wanted to sleep in for the night. I did spend a lot of time in his room because my main computer was in it, and I also read and played my guitars in there. So, Pepe got accustomed to my presence in his room, and being a social bird he interacted with me on his own accord by deciding when he felt like bonding with me by landing on me to preen or take a nap or just happily chirp. When he got in his territorial mood, he wouldn’t let me touch his stuff which was pretty much every thing in his room, including my stuff - Lol. I was fortunate to have been his caretaker for 13 years! Thanks for watching! :
Is This Body Language
Yes, it’s just my interpretation of his cute body language! Thanks for watching! :)
It’s Aesthetic
did he have a female? because he would only nest if he was with a female.
Pepe never had a female. Building nests for himself was just something he loved to do, and he would get super excited whenever I gave him new nesting material to continue building his numerous nests at various locations in his room, some of which were quite hidden from view, such as 2 nests inside a closet and 1 behind a folding chair and another in the crevice of a swivel reclining chair. I personally preferred that he slept in his cage at night, but NO NO NO … Pepe would decide for himself in which one of his nests he wanted to sleep in for the night. Some days when I would come into his room, I had no idea in which one of his nests he was in. Thanks again for watching his videos! :)
Its not realy healthy behaviour though..
